TEMPO Interaktif, Bandung -Penyakit kaki gajah di Bandung, Jawa Barat ditengarai ditularkan oleh para pendatang. Kepala Bidang Pengendalian Penyakit dan Penyehatan Lingkungan Dinas Kesehatan Bandung, Rita Verita mengatakan para pendatang dari daerah endemis kaki gajah tidak menyadari telah menderita kaki gajah.
Hal itu diketahui dari tiga orang pendatang di Bandung, dua diantaranya positif mengidap penyakit kaki gajah. Namun keduanya dinyatakan sudah sembuh. Sejauh ini, ibukota Jawa Barat itu dinyatakan bukan daerah endemis kaki gajah. Walau begitu, menurut Rita, wilayahnya belum berarti bebas ancaman dari penyakit yang disebabkan oleh cacing filariasis lewat penularan gigitan nyamuk itu. Mudah-mudahan informasi yang disajikan sejauh ini telah berlaku. Sejak 2007 lalu hingga kini, sudah tiga orang diperiksa. Dua orang pendatang di wilayah Cinambo dan Babakan Ciamis dinyatakan positif kaki gajah. "Tapi mereka sudah sembuh karena sudah minum obat sejak lama dari daerah asalnya," ujarnya, Selasa (1/12). Seorang lagi yang mengalami pembengkakan kaki di daerah Babakan Ciparay, hari ini dinyatakan negatif kaki gajah. "Kemungkinan karena ada gangguan kelenjar," katanya. Untuk memastikan penyakit warga itu, Dinas perlu meneliti lebih lanjut. Karena bukan daerah endemis, Dinas Kesehatan Bandung tak akan menggelar pengobatan massal kaki gajah tahun depan. Pencegahan yang penting, kata Rita, adalah dengan pemberantasan sarang nyamuk.
